What is a bodice block?
A bodice block—also called a basic pattern block, torso block or sloper—is a foundation pattern used to develop original garment designs.
These are professional base templates rather than finished sewing patterns. You can alter their neckline, length, fit, darts, sleeves and design details to create your own tops, dresses, blouses, tunics, shirts, vests and kimono-style garments.
You can use the blocks in their original form after adding seam allowances or manipulate them to develop completely new designs.
Basic pattern-making and garment-construction knowledge is recommended.
What is a kimono sleeve block?
A kimono sleeve is drafted as part of the bodice instead of being sewn into a separate armhole. The bodice and sleeve form one continuous pattern piece.
Kimono blocks can be used to develop relaxed tops, dresses, blouses, jackets and tunics with different sleeve lengths and widths.
This bundle includes darted and dartless kimono options, together with a matching back kimono block.
What is a batwing block?
A batwing or dolman-style block has a deep, relaxed armhole and a sleeve integrated into the bodice. It creates additional volume under the arm and can be adapted into loose tops, blouses, dresses, tunics and lightweight jackets.
The included batwing block provides a professional starting point for developing your own batwing and dolman-style designs.
