What is an editable pattern block?

A pattern block, also called a sloper, is a base template for developing original garment designs. The editable format allows you to modify the pattern digitally in Adobe Illustrator before printing.

The bundle counts individual front, back and sleeve blocks. Combine compatible pieces to develop your garment, checking seam lengths and fit after making alterations.

Regular and plus sizes are included. Check the body-measurement chart in the listing images before selecting your size.

We recommend making a toile or test garment before cutting your final fabric, especially after modifying a block.

The projector file is protected and intended for projection. It is not editable in Adobe Illustrator. Use the A4, US Letter or A0 files for digital pattern alterations and printing.

How to use the editable files

1. Download and save the files to your computer.
2. Open the required A4, US Letter or A0 PDF in Adobe Illustrator.
3. Select the block and size you want to work with.
4. Make your pattern alterations and check adjoining seams.
5. Add seam allowances and any required pattern markings.
6. Arrange your finished pieces within the print layout.
7. Print at 100% scale and verify the test square before using the pattern.

Adobe Illustrator is required for editing and is not included in this purchase. Adobe Acrobat Reader can be used for viewing and printing, but does not provide these vector pattern-editing functions.

Recommended fabrics

These blocks are drafted for woven, non-stretch fabrics.

Depending on your final design, suitable choices include cotton lawn, poplin, linen, chambray, crepe, satin, lightweight denim and lightweight wool. Select a fabric weight and drape appropriate for the garment you develop.

These blocks are not drafted for jersey, knit or stretch fabrics.

Printing and projector help

Print at 100% scale / Actual Size and check the test square before printing the complete pattern. A4 and US Letter pages require assembly. Use the A0 files for large-format copy-shop printing.

No. It contains 14 individual bodice and sleeve blocks, including front and back variations. Use compatible pieces as starting templates for your own garment designs.

Are printable files included in the editable version?

Yes. The A4, US Letter and A0 PDF files are ready for printing and can also be edited in Adobe Illustrator.

Do I need Adobe Illustrator just to print?

No. You can use Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print the supplied PDFs. Adobe Illustrator is required when you want to edit the vector pattern pieces.

Can I edit the projector file?

No. The projector file is protected. All pattern pieces are also supplied in the editable A4, US Letter and A0 files.

Are seam allowances or sewing instructions included?

No. Add seam allowances after completing your pattern alterations. Basic pattern-making and garment-construction knowledge is required.

Can I sell garments made using these blocks?

Yes. You may use the blocks for personal and commercial garment making. The digital files may not be shared, redistributed or resold.
