The A4, US Letter and A0 PDF files are printable and editable in Adobe Illustrator. A separate projector file and size chart are also included.

What Is a Pattern Block?

A pattern block, also called a sloper, is a base template for developing your own garment designs. Use the existing shape after adding seam allowances, or modify the neckline, seams, length and proportions to create a new style.

This is a professional pattern block, not a step-by-step sewing pattern. Seam allowances, sewing instructions and cutting instructions are not included. Pattern-making and garment-construction knowledge is required.

Pattern Pieces Included

• Front bodice: armhole princess seams.

• Basic straight sleeve: short, elbow, three-quarter and long length options.
• Semi-fitted sleeve.

Editable and Printable Files

The bodice and sleeve patterns are supplied in separate file groups, including:

• A4 PDFs: for home printing and editing in Adobe Illustrator.
• US Letter PDFs: for home printing and editing in Adobe Illustrator.
• A0 PDFs: for copy-shop printing and editing in Adobe Illustrator.
• Separate projector PDFs: for home sewing projectors.
• Size chart PDF.

The editable patterns are supplied as unlocked PDF files that open in Adobe Illustrator. Adobe Illustrator software is required for editing and is not included in this purchase.

The projector files are locked and are not intended for printing or editing. Use the A4, US Letter or A0 files to edit the patterns or print paper copies.

What Can You Edit?

• Modify necklines, garment lengths and sleeve shapes.
• Develop new style lines and change proportions.

How to Use the Editable Files

1. Download and save the files to your desktop or laptop computer.
2. In Adobe Illustrator, choose File → Open and select an A4, US Letter or A0 PDF.
3. Select the pattern pieces and size you want to work with.
4. Make your design alterations and add seam allowances.
5. Arrange the finished pieces within the print frames.
6. Check the scale and layout before printing.

Adobe Acrobat Reader can be used for printing, but does not provide the pattern-line editing functions described above.

Choose your size using the body-measurement chart rather than your usual ready-to-wear size. Make a toile (test garment) to check the fit and your alterations before cutting your final fabric.

Fit and Ease

This block is drafted for a fitted silhouette in woven fabrics, with approximately 4–6 cm bust ease and 2–4 cm waist ease. Check the fit in a toile and adjust the ease to suit your intended design.

Recommended Fabrics

Designed for woven, non-stretch fabrics, including cotton, linen, poplin, chambray, crepe, chiffon, satin, wool and denim. Choose a fabric weight appropriate for the garment you are developing.

These blocks are not drafted for knitted or stretch fabrics.
