Editable Barrel Pants Pattern Block with Gusset
Develop your own trouser designs with this professionally drafted editable barrel pants pattern block. Designed for woven fabrics, it features relaxed, curved legs that taper towards the ankle, a gusset, pockets and an elasticated waistband. Sizes XXS–6XL are included.
Open the unlocked pattern PDFs in Adobe Illustrator to edit lines and curves, adjust proportions and add your own pattern markings. The A4, US Letter and A0 files are also ready for printing.
This is an editable pattern block (sloper). Seam allowances, cutting instructions and step-by-step sewing instructions are not included. Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, pattern preparation and garment construction is required.

Check the fit, seam lengths and print scale after making changes. Design adjustments may also change your fabric requirements.

Choose your size using the body measurements in the size chart shown in the product images. Make a toile (test garment) to check the fit and any design adjustments before cutting your final fabric.
What You Receive — 5 PDF Files
- Editable A4 PDF: 28 pages, ready for home printing and digital editing in Adobe Illustrator.
- Editable US Letter PDF: 30 pages, ready for home printing and digital editing in Adobe Illustrator.
- Editable A0 PDF: 2 large-format pages for copy shop printing and digital editing in Adobe Illustrator.
- Projector PDF: a protected file for use with a calibrated sewing projector. This file is not editable.
- Size Chart PDF.
The editable patterns are supplied as unlocked PDF files that open in Adobe Illustrator. A separate native .AI file is not included.
The A4 and US Letter files require assembly. The A0 format reduces the number of sheets to handle; depending on the pattern layout, the two sheets may still need to be joined.
How to Use the Editable PDFs
- Download and save your files to your computer.
- Open Adobe Illustrator on your PC or Mac.
- Go to File → Open and select an editable A4, US Letter or A0 PDF.
- Select the relevant PDF page or pages and locate the size you want to work with.
- Edit the pattern and add your own seam allowances and markings.
- Check adjoining seams, pattern measurements and scale.
- Adjust the print layout as needed, then save your edited version and print at 100% scale.
Adobe Illustrator is required for digital pattern editing and is not included in this purchase. Adobe Acrobat Reader can be used to view and print the PDFs, but it does not provide Illustrator’s pattern-editing tools.
The projector PDF is protected and intended for projection. Use the unlocked A4, US Letter or A0 PDFs for editing in Illustrator.
Suggested Fabrics and Materials
This block is designed for woven fabrics. Suggested options include linen, cotton, viscose, chambray, poplin, lightweight denim and satin.
Your fabric choice will affect the silhouette: softer fabrics create a more fluid shape, while fabrics with more body emphasise the curved barrel leg.
- Main fabric: approximately 1.5–2 metres, depending on size and fabric width. Check the fabric guidance and your cutting layout before purchasing.
- Waistband elastic: choose a width compatible with the waistband casing and adjust the length to fit.
- Matching sewing thread.
Not designed for knitted or stretch fabrics. Recalculate fabric requirements if you change the length, width or design.
Printing and Projection
- Print at 100% / Actual Size. Do not select “Fit to Page”.
- Measure the test square before printing the complete pattern.
- After editing, check that the pattern scale and print layout remain correct.
- For copy shop printing, request A0 output at 100% scale.
- Calibrate your projector and check the scale before tracing or cutting.
